INSIGNIA DENMARK Monitering for varroa mites
Few days ago, the INSIGNIA colonies were treated with an oxalic acid evaporation. How do we know the number of mites in the colonies? We have inserts in our colonies, where the dead mites do drop down and you can see them as small 1,5x1,2 mm in size. Brown, like small flaxseeds. For the beekeeper easy to see, for others difficult. We are curious, so we went down to see the drop down after 2 days. No mites in the INSIGNIA colonies, but in others up to 10 mites. Very promising, low mite load.

INSIGNIA DENMARK Happy New Year
The best you can do as a beekeeping on new years day! Go to you bees, see if they are doing well and not rocket disturbance. But the very best you can do, is to treat for the parasitic mite varroa destruction. A mite that will kill the colonies within few years in a combination of parasitism and virus attack. In Denmark we use a very sustainably way but using organic treatments several times during the winter. Here oxalic acid evaporation.
